The Correct Technique of Teeth Brushing
When you brush your teeth, set the brush at an angle of 40° relative to the tooth, on the spot where the teeth and gingiva meet. Gently pull the brush from the gum towards the biting surfaces using short strokes and light pressure. Do it several times for the same group of teeth and then do the same with the inner side. For the inner surfaces of frontal teeth set the brush vertically.
The biting surface is to be brushed from the last tooth to the frontal ones using only that direction. By brushing your teeth in both directions you are only rubbing the plaque back and forth.
While you brush your teeth there is no contact between the teeth! It is recommended to look at the mirror and control the technique applied during the brushing of the teeth.
When you finish brushing, rinse your mouth well.
When visiting the dentist do not hesitate to ask how to successfully maintain oral hygiene. Every dentist will be very happy to explain it and demonstrate it on a model.
THE TECHNIQUE OF THREAD USE
It is difficult and almost impossible to clean the space between the teeth using a brush. A thread is an effective tool for cleaning these interspaces. The proper technique is very important in order to avoid hurting the gingiva. It is best to use wax-coated thread, because it is easier to manipulate.
Start with a 15 cm long thread. Wrap the thread around the middle finger and the rest around the middle finger of the other hand. Use your thumb and index finger and gently push back the thread between the teeth without forcing. Set the thread on the gingival level, tightening it towards one tooth and then pull it down the tooth surface. Do the same with the neighboring space of the neighboring teeth. Use the thread carefully in order to avoid hurting the gums.
When finished rinse your mouth well to remove the remaining food and plaque.
If your gums bleed during the use of thread, try to be careful. Daily use of thread will help your gums to be healthy and the bleeding will eventually stop.
If you maintain the hygiene of your mouth in the way that we suggest, there is a great chance that you will keep your teeth untill the end of your life!
WHAT IS Xylitol?
Xylitol is a natural alcoholic sugar that is increasingly used in the prevention of caries.
Produced from fibers of fruit and vegetables, it is ideal for consumers of healthy food. It has 40 percent less calories than regular sugar, and the same sweeetening power. Intended for diabetics, too.
How does the preventive effect work?
Xylitol prevents the growth of bacteria that cause caries. Actually bacteria can not use it for their growth, opposite to other kinds of sugar. After some time the status of the bacteria in the oral cavity changes and reduces the number of bacteria that colonize the tooth surface, and the pH returns to normal.
Usually you can find xylitol in chewing gum and it can be purchased in healthy food stores.
Dentists recommend taking 5 gr. 2-3 times a day. Larger amounts may have laxative effects because it dissolves slowly in the colon.
